Sweet and Sour Meatballs
Serves: 2 people
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients
• ⅓ jar Vooka Sweet and Sour Sauce
• 2 stems green onion (1½ for garnish, ½ for meatballs)
• 10 pieces small shrimp
• 250 g minced fatty pork
• 1 tbsp potato starch
• 1 tsp oyster sauce
• 1 egg
• 2 tsp light soy sauce
• ½ tsp sesame oil
• ¼ tsp black pepper, to taste
• 4 tbsp water
• 2 tbsp oil
Instructions
1. Wash green onions and pat dry with paper towel. Slice them on a bias and set aside.
2. Slice shrimp into quarters. In a large bowl, mix shrimp and pork until well combined. In the same bowl, add ¼ of the sliced green onions, potato starch, oyster sauce, egg, one teaspoon of light soy sauce, sesame oil, pepper and two tablespoons of water. Mix well with your hands. Meat should have a somewhat loose consistency but still stick together. Take a tablespoon of the mixture and form into a ball. Repeat. Set aside.
3. Heat a frying pan on high heat. When hot, add 2 tablespoons of oil and lower heat to medium. Place balls in pan and sear on all sides until brown (about 5 minutes). Turn heat down to low and add two tablespoons of water to the pan, cover and allow meatballs to steam for 5 minutes.
4. While meatballs are steaming, shake Vooka Sweet and Sour Sauce jar so that contents are mixed well. Remove lid from pan and keep heat on medium until almost all of the water evaporates. Move the meatballs around so that they don't burn. When water evaporates, lower heat to medium-low and deglaze pan with a teaspoon of light soy sauce. Add in ⅓ jar of Vooka Sweet and Sour Sauce. Coat meatballs with sauce and plate.
5. Garnish with green onion.
